Brutal collective is a Glasgow based initiative that aims to support emerging artists and musicians in the early stages of their creative careers. We provide opportunities for artists to get involved in collaborative exhibitions, workshops, screenings and club nights and are committed to ensuring Scotland's contemporary art is more accessible to emerging artists.

Our Vision
Brutal Collective was founded by Lucy Smith and Pagan Mckenzie, two Glaswegian graduate visual artists. When we graduated from Art school we felt there was a real lack of opportunities for emerging artists and DJs. We found there were not many opportunities to meet other creatives or gain artistic experience due to costs or lack of knowledge and connections.
We believe art is a necessity and inclusivity is at the heart of our values. We believe that the art world is often elitist and inaccessible for emerging artists so we aim to give artists an opportunity to meet other creatives, exhibit their work or gain a new technical skill.
In order to ensure creativity is accessible to all our artists and DJs, we offer artist workshops, creative spaces to work, materials and free spaces for exhibitions and gigs.

Why Art and Electronic Music?
Glasgow is known for its rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community, and Brutal Collective’s projects aim to build on these foundations. By hosting events that bring people together, we encourage collaboration and shared experiences, strengthening local connections. We wanted to combine Glasgow’s diverse, vibrant nightlife with visual art as they are two scenes that we feel go hand in hand...
While we have a love for both visual art and underground electronic music, we feel that both scenes share a similar demographic. We want to create accessible atmospheres for both visual artists and DJs to host exhibitions and live events so why not host them in some of Glasgow's most notorious bar and club venues?

How we can help artists and DJs?
Our workshops and panel discussions provide skill-building opportunities, especially for young and emerging artists, while our exhibitions and performances celebrate the diverse talent Scotland has to offer. These events provide opportunities to gain experience in managing exhibitions, performing, budgeting, marketing and technical skills. We also prioritise inclusivity, ensuring our events are accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability.
